Home-Start East Sussex – History

Home-Start has been supporting vulnerable families in East Sussex since 1988.  In 2014 the two independent schemes in the county – Home-Start South Downs (est. 1996)  in the west and Home-Start Hastings & Rother (est. 1988) in the east – merged to become Home-Start East Sussex.  Our core home-visiting service was primarily funded by East Sussex County Council from our formation until March 2016.  We are now funded by various independent grant providers, fundraising events and donors.
In 2016/17 the Home-Start East Sussex volunteer home-visiting service supported 109 families with the help of 55 volunteers.  An additional 21 families received a coordinator home-visit and were referred to a specialist agency that best suited their needs.  41 women attended our reflective domestic abuse courses.
In previous years our other services have included:
  • Short Breaks for Disabled Children
  • Music Therapy for Preschool Children with Special Needs
  • Baby & Toddler Groups
  • Money Management & Debt Advice
